Last night, I had a 1on1 with Kerri who is a pronunciation doctor of The Linguist. I have requested her that I wanted to practice "O" sound using my special ode. Steve's audio file helped me a lot to pracitce, so I wanted to get some feedback from her. Here is her advice; (I pronunced "dote" with too long "Ow" instead of short "o")
Lesson of the day:
Voiceless sounds (p, t, k,)
When preceded by a vowel - the vowel is pronounced SHORT: Ex. Sock [sok]
Voiced sounds (b, d, g)
When preceded by a vowel - the vowel is pronounced LONG: Ex. Sob [sob] This audio file was recorded by Kerri. I am going to record my own and post later on so that you can compare and give me advice!
Over yonder in the orient, exotic and remote
For too long unknown, while on her dogs she did dote
A confident signorina, a professional persona
Accomplished and polished, a modern Desdemona.
She projects an image both soft and strong
To us the poor linguists, the VOX blog throng
We only wonder aloud who was that other fellow
In the photo, him, the guy, that modern Othello.
Kerri kindly recorded it for me, also. "who was that other fellow" is also difficult part to pronounce naturally. "Intonation" is another key to sound natural, I believe.
Steve has recorded this and the audio file is on his vox blog, also.
